You need protein!

If you're looking to increase your daily protein intake or enrich the nutritional value of your recipes, then stay right here, because we're going to tell you two ways to use textured soy in sweet recipes. Yes, sweet, you read that correctly. Did you know about them?

Textured soy protein is isolated soy protein.

It's a high-quality plant protein, and we usually use it as a meat substitute because, per 100 grams of product, it contains approximately 50 grams of protein. Additionally, it's low in fat, rich in fiber and quality carbohydrates, and lacks sugar and salt.

In general, we use it in empanadas made with plant-based meat, for hamburgers, breaded cutlets, meatballs y meatloaf. It is almost always used as a substitute for meat in traditional preparations, generally hydrated, well washed, drained, and re-seasoned and cooked.

But there are other ways to use it. First of all, it can be used raw. That is to say, textured soy can go directly from the package to your palate. This is because the production method includes cooking, and that makes it fit for human consumption. Have you ever tried using it without hydrating it? Did you know about this other way to incorporate it?

Did you know that, due to its neutral flavor, it can also be used in sweet preparations? Obviously, we're talking about textured soy, the kind that comes unflavored and all that. And, as always, we recommend using organic or GMO-free, if possible.

Here are two variations that are ideal for incorporating this product into your breakfasts, afternoon snacks, or snacks:

  • incorporating it into homemade granola, without preservatives or additives, to always have on hand!
  • turning it into powder to make a super protein smoothie, instead of buying them, much more economical, healthy, and delicious!

Besides soy, you can use pea or chickpea in textured version.
